The painting, taking as a model the “Return from Fishing” by the Spanish painter Sorolla Joaquin (1863-1923), depicts some fishermen dragging a boat to shore.
The scene is set in the foreground on the right with a standing figure whose towing rope comes out of the canvas and extends the action externally, creating the suggestion of the actual advancement of the boat from the sea towards the viewer.
The action takes place in the late evening, as indicated by the long shadows left by the figures and the boat on the shore, when the fishermen return after a hard day's work.
The original work is now preserved in the Raccolte Frugone in Genoa, the large collection that the brothers Lazzaro and Luigi Frugone donated to the Municipality of Genoa between the 1930s and 1950s.
