passion for art!
Bernardo Balestrieri (Palermo 1884 - 1965) was a Sicilian sculptor active in the early decades of the twentieth century. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo, becoming particularly passionate about sculpture through the lessons of professor Vincenzo Ragusa. In Rome he graduated from the School of the Art of the Medal of the Zecca del Regno.
Back in Palermo, he worked as a decorator, creating architectural friezes, and as a portraitist mainly for the city bourgeoisie. He is remembered in particular for having erected the monument to the Fallen in Poggio Mirteto in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. Balestrieri participated in various art exhibitions in Italy and abroad. He was present at the Eighth International Biennial Art Exhibition in Venice in 1909 with the plaster work "La cieca" and at the ninth Venetian Art Exhibition in 1910 with two plaster works "Orphans" and "Reflection in Water". His work "Ergastolanơ" is in the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.
