The theme of “horses” has found wide development in the work of Giorgio De Chirico. He painted many of them and they are always highly appreciated by collectors from all over the world. The painting is intended to be a tribute to the work of De Chirico by proposing two horses facing each other in an indefinite and unknown time, without any landscape reference other than a completely bare tree. Interesting is the fact that the painting is not a posthumous homage but, considering the date of creation (1972), a homage made by the painter when the Master De Chirico was alive.
