passion for art!
Cristoforo Sparagna, known as Minturnese, was one of the most profound (and unknown) poets, writers, sculptors and painters of the 20th century. Son of a large family of small farmers, despite having a great passion for literature and art, he was only able to study at the Nautical Institute of Gaeta and after graduating, to earn a salary, he embarked as an engineer on merchant ships. For many years, always continuing to study literature, Greek and Latin, he alternated tiring ocean crossings with difficult periods of poverty in Naples, during which he approached painting, attracted by the great coloristic lesson of the Neapolitan Antonio Mancini, immediately demonstrating extraordinary talents.
Only after the age of 30, having won a public competition, was he able to definitively leave the sea, get married and teach in schools. Since then he devoted himself with ever greater commitment to painting and writing, collaborating as a literary and art critic for various newspapers.
As a painter he exhibited in Naples, Rome, Milan, Philadelphia, elevating to art the silent bucolic landscape of Minturno, the labors, gestures, feelings, pains, quarrels, envies, affections, the daily drama of his people.
He also created eight large altarpieces for the church of San Francesco in Minturno (Prov. Latina - Lazio).
The painting for sale is a clear example of a work with which Cristoforo Sparagna once again wanted to celebrate the beautiful land of Minturno.
