The Athena Lemnia (called "The Beautiful") was one of the three statues present in the Acropolis of Athens in honor of the goddess of wisdom Athena. All the statues were created by Phidias in the 5th century BC.
The sculpture refers to the purity and harmony of classical lines. The goddess is in an absorbed and thoughtful attitude; the soft cheeks and harmonious nose accentuate her beauty. The hair is also characteristic, modeled in symmetrical locks that give a sensation of body and softness. The head of the goddess is encircled by a taenia, the typical honorary band present on the forehead of many classical statues.
