The sculpture "The Wild Boar", one of the most visited works in Florence, was commissioned by Ferdinand II de' Medici to the sculptor Pietro Tacca (1577-1640), who was inspired by a Hellenistic marble sculpture, donated by Pope Pius IV to Cosimo I de' Medici. The popularity of this work is due to the legend according to which touching the boar's nose would bring good luck.
