The painting is a twentieth-century tribute to the refined and famous Venetian vedutista school of the 18th century. Piazza San Marco, one of the most famous squares in the world, is painted leaving the two columns visible from the front, that of the Winged Lion and that of San Teodoro. In the background the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore with its Palladian basilica. Figures in eighteenth-century clothes populate the painting and in the foreground a nice image of two dogs playing with each other
