The painting (oil on wood) is a twentieth-century homage to the refined and famous Venetian school of vedutista of the 18th century. Palazzo Ducale was particularly dear to Venetian vedutisti who often painted it from different perspectives in their canvases, making it almost a figurative icon destined to last over time. The painting is populated in the foreground by gondolas moored on the Grand Canal from which you can see the bell tower of the Basilica of San Marco and Palazzo Ducale.
